On November 1st 2025, I ran 31 self supported miles in the mountains around San Diego. I decided to make a mini social media campaign triumphing my success and explaining how I got there. Each video is posted below, with some design notes at the bottom.
Each graphic featured a picture I took during my run. During my run, I had numerous check points, where I'd stop and rest, and check in with my partner. The pictures were generally taken around those check-points, and so they were shown chronologically, representing the passing of time as I moved throughout the day.
Even the background color was a long gradient mesh that showed the passing of time, from the light pastels of the morning, to the bright blues of the afternoon and finishing with the fiery colors of sunset and the dark blues that represented the last mile spent in the dark. In fact, the colors used thoughout were colors found in the various photos taken that day. I strived to to tell the story of the run with the graphics and colors as much as I could.
Each asset featured a hero illustration on the first frame that tied into the text(TOS). On top of that, a large bank of secondary illustrations were created and different illustrations were added to each graphic. These illustrations were picked to match teach assets respective photo and give more of an idea of what I saw at the various check points. The illustrations were kept simple, as heavy use of blur was planned. The graphics were aligned into 3d space in After Effects, allowing for nice parallax between frames.
I chose the font Fields for this project. Fields was a very visually pleasing font and easy to read, while maintaining a certain level of craft that matched the other visuals.
Below is the background gradient mesh.
